Retro Gaming: Flash to the Past!

Retro video games are still played today, by using old but updated Atari 2000 or a Super Nintendo SNES. Today we’re going to be going over my top 10 retro video games. Comment what your favorite one is below!!!

#10 - Street Fighter

Street Fighter was a classic game back then where, well, you fight on a street. The world is tiny, allowing you to only advance and fall back. Two players battle it out until one player gets too much damage and gets knocked out.

After every couple of fights, you’ll be able to face a new fighter which if you defeat, will become a usable character in battle!

#9 - Laser Blast

This game was recommended to be interviewed by one of my family members and is a very old game for the Atari 2600. The goal is to shoot little bases on the floor and not get shot yourself. It isn’t much fun now but back then, people thought it pretty cool.

If you got a score of 99,999,999 you could send in proof of it to the developers and you would get a patch saying you’d beat the game’s highest level!

#8 - Puck-Man

Better known as Pac-Man, this game was released in Japan by Namco in 1980. You probably are familiar with this game as it is still widely common in arcades around the world. The goal is to eat all the dots and fruit as a little circle (Or cheese slice as I call it) and not get eaten by the ghosts.

This game is one of the most well-known retro video games of all time.

#7 - Space Invaders

This game is a pretty old one, but when it was released, it was a smash hit! You’re probably familiar with this game too but if not, here’s the point. You are a little movable-turret that can move from side to side shooting out little lasers to stop the approaching aliens.

If the aliens get to your base, (Which is the floor) it’s game over. Good luck next time though!

#6 - Spacewar!

Spacewar! was a pretty good game for the 1960s. There is a star in the center of the screen and you and another ship are being pulled to the center of it. The goal is to destroy the other ship with Torpedo-like missiles before you are both sucked into the star.

The picture above is a picture of the game but if you were playing it in the 1960s, it would look more like this:

The graphics were TERRIBLE but you’ve got to give credit to the guys who made this, Peter Russell and Peter Sampson as gaming was not popular back then and they kinda started up the major gaming age with this simple game. Aside from Pong and a few other games, Spacewar! was one of the first video games created!

#5 - The Legend of Zelda

Breath of the Wild is one of the newest editions to The Legend of Zelda and so I thought it good include the original game. The 2D game was released in 1986 released by Nintendo and the goal is kinda the same every game, but the goal for this one is to save Princess Zelda and re-claim the Tri-Force.

As you play, you’ll get more hearts, better weapons, and face tougher monsters. And it starts out when you enter the cave (As shown above) and meet an old man who gives you a sword and departs saying, “Take this, it’s dangerous to go alone…”

#4 - Super Mario 64

This game’s cool because it was the first ever Mario game to be in 3D! The game starts when Mario walks to the castle, expecting to find Princess Peach, but instead learns that Bowser has trapped her and all the “Toads” inside!

To free them, you are tasked with finding Stars, which are like the Power Moon of the game. As you find stars, you’ll be able to open more rooms and free more people until you’re met with the Boss Battle of Bowser.

Fun Fact: To attack in this game, you must either jump on your target’s head, or pick them up and throw them!

#3 - Galaga

Just from looking at the picture above, you should be able to guess what this game is all about already. Galaga was released in 1981 for Atari 7800 and Famicon, but was later put on even more devices like Nintendo.

The goal is to fight your way through evil spaceships and destroy the boss. It can get pretty overwhelming at some points but that’s what makes it intense and fun!

Fun Fact: Some evil spaceships can steal YOUR spaceship and bring it to the bad side. If you are able to shoot the ship that turned your previous ship bad, your spaceship that turned evil will come to you and you and will become on your side again! This will have twice the firepower! Just make sure not to shoot your previous ship if turned bad, otherwise it will be destroyed, making it unusable.

#2 - Super Mario Bros.

Mario Bros. Is pretty much what Nintendo is known for. Released in 1983, the goal of the game is to defeat enemies and reach the end of the map, where a flag with Bowser’s Logo is located. You can climb it and turn it into a big ‘M’!

Along the way, you can get power-ups such as stars or fire-flowers by exploring pipes, squashing enemies, getting the ‘?’ Blocks, and more! You’re timed on each level so do your exploring quickly and carefully to get to the end!

Although this was not one of the first video games ever created, It is an Original Classic of Nintendo and of gaming in general, which in my opinion, is twice as good.

#1 - Pong

And this brings us to our Number 1 spot in todays blog. Pong. In October, 1958, Atari created this simple Tennis game. The goal was to hit a small ball past the other player’s little wall. If you managed to do that, you got a point!

This game is one of (if not the oldest) video game ever created. It was Released for Atari and was put on Atari devises and arcade machines. It is a simple game but because of how it was made almost 60 years ago, it gets the #1 spot.
